| This photograph was taken in June 1900
when Field Marshal Sir George White, VC., a veteran of the
Afghan Wars of the 1880s, paraded through the town.
Starting from the left we have [No. 27]
William J. Long (Boot Merchant) since 1878; [No. 26] John
Mills (Grocer) since 1872, replaced by W. T. Montgomery,
also
listed in the 1901 Census Returns. [No. 25] had been
occupied by Thomas McFarlane (Cabinetmaker & Undertaker)
since 1891.
Next [No. 24] Dr. Charles D. Forsythe in the Medical Hall.
He was listed in the 1901 Census Returns but, by 1911 had
moved to the Lodge Road. Next [No. 23] James Dillon (China & Delph Warehouse), also listed in 1901 Census Returns. [Nos.
23 & 24] had become Simpson & Hill (Hardware Merchants) by
the 1940s. [No. 22] was occupied by Thomas Long
(Cabinetmaker), also listed in 1901 Census returns. [No.
21] had been occupied by Samuel Woodburn (Flour & Grain
Merchant) from 1876. His widow, Isabella, occupied it at the
turn of the century. By 1927 this building had been taken
over by Thomas D. MacFarlane (Garage), son of Thomas, and in
1935 he also took over [No. 22] and the two premises became T. D. MacFarlane (Ford Depot).
