Townland Valuation of Town of Coleraine: Houses in Church Street
| The pages
which follow are copied from [PRONI ref. VAL/1B/542A] and give details
of houses in Church Street, Coleraine. The numbers against each
house correspond to the numbers on the valuation map for the town
c.1834. Details, often in code, are given of the condition, age
and dimensions of each house - read
this for an explanation of the code, etc. Note that first page
below contains the end of the houses in Long Commons Street. This
shows the stark contrast between the houses in Long Commons and
those in Church Street. The same kind of information on most houses,
in all streets, in the town is also available in the VAL/1B/542A
manuscript book. Unfortunately the Headings are missing from these
pages. I have included a general copy of the headings on a page. The
first column is the number given to the property by the valuers.
This number corresponds with the number on the 1834 Valuation Map.
Note that the Names and Description column straddles columns 2,
3 and 4 on the pages below. Columns 5, 6 and 7 cover Length [i.e
frontage], breadth and height. Ignore the next two columns Column
10 gives the valuation of each building along with a total for the
entire property. |
