Valuation
Records
Valuation records of land and
buildings can supply the researcher with lists of
names which are often seen by genealogists as
substitutes for the missing censuses before 1901.
They also supply information on the houses and farms
that our ancestors lived in. The fact that most
valuation records have accompanying maps means that
it is possible to locate individual farms and houses
within townlands in the countryside and individual
houses in each of the streets within towns and
cities.
Below are some notes on the valuation records that are
available for the nineteenth and twentieth centuries - the Townland
Valuation of the 1830s, the Griffith’s Printed [Tenement] Valuation of
1848-64 [1859 to 1861 in North Antrim], the Griffith's Revisions c.1860
to c.1930 and the 1935 General Revaluation of Northern Ireland.
