Other Records
It would
be impossible to list all of the sources available
under this heading. What I'm trying to do here is
to suggest some other sources which will give the amateur
historian some sort of feel for the place that they
are studying and provide those, particularly from
abroad, searching for their ancestors some feel for
the kind of place they lived in.
It also
has to be said that perhaps the richest period for
such sources is the first half of the nineteenth
century when Ireland was seen as an oddity by many
Victorians. The sources listed below are just a selection
of material relating to the period from the latter
years of the eighteenth century to the early years
of the twentieth century. At the moment they relate
mainly to the Ballymoney district.

The Coleraine Branch
of the North of Ireland Family History Society have
published three lists of births, marriages and
deaths which contain names relating to the
Ballymoney area. Two of these are in book form -
The Coleraine Chronicle - Births, Marriages and
Deaths 1844 - 1869 and The Ballymoney
Herald - Births, Marriages and deaths 1860 - 1863.
Their latest project, The Londonderry Sentinel
- Births, Marriages and Deaths, is in CD
format. For details of these books and the CD,
go to the
Coleraine Branch (NIFHS) web site.
