Example of an Ordnance Survey Map

This is a photograph of Sheet 17 for County Antrim (PRONI Ref. OS/6/1/17/1). This is the first edition of the map and is dated 1833. It is to a scale of six inches to the mile. Note that, unlike later editions, this edition did not include field boundaries.  The sheet includes the town of Ballymoney. Clearly the map is difficult to read. That is why I have chosen two areas within this map to let you have a closer look at this map and also parts of the adjoining sheets  11, 12 & 16. Note that the top right-hand corner of this map includes part of the area around the Killyrammer/Kilraghts example and the top left-hand corner, part of the the area around the Ballycormick/Ballywattick example. The third example, Seacon/Tullaghgore, is covered by parts of sheets 11 and 12..
