Civil Records
Civil registers of
births and deaths are available from 1864 and civil
registers of marriages are available from 1845 (in
the case of Protestant marriages) and for all
marriages from 1864. However, in my experience, some
births, deaths and marriages went unrecorded in the
years immediately following 1864.
This information for
Northern Ireland is
held by the General Register Offices in Belfast. You
can also obtain information relating to Northern
Ireland before 1922 in the Research Section of the
General Register Office in Dublin. The links below will take you to these
offices where you can find out about where these
records are held, what they contain and how you can
access them and how much it will cost you.
The Coleraine Branch
of the North of Ireland Family History Society have
published three lists of births, marriages and
deaths which contain names relating to the
Ballymoney area. Two of these are in book form -
The Coleraine Chronicle - Births, Marriages and
Deaths 1844 - 1869 and The Ballymoney
Herald - Births, Marriages and deaths 1860 - 1863.
Their latest project, The Londonderry Sentinel
- Births, Marriages and Deaths, is in CD
format. For details of these books and the CD,
go to the
Coleraine Branch (NIFHS) web site.
