Griffith's Printed Valuation (1859) for Ballymoney
Town
A valuation of all
houses and land in Ireland was carried out in the
1850s. This valuation is generally known as the
Griffith's Valuation. The results of this valuation
were published in printed form around 1859 and the
books were arranged by Poor Law Union. For more
information on the Griffith's Valuation go to
PRONI.
Below are links to page
105 to 119 in
the Griffith's Printed Valuation for the Poor Law
Union of Ballymoney. These pages cover all of the streets in the town of Ballymoney
in 1859. Note that the entries for Ballymoney town
are arranged under the townlands of Glebe and
Townparks. These two townlands also include entries
relating to the immediate rural area outside the
town. Many of the people holding land in Townparks were residents of the
town.
The table below indicates which street
or townland
appears on each page. Click on the appropriate page
number to see the persons listed on that page. Below
the table you will find links to the maps which will
help you to locate the people listed in the pages.
Note that I have not been able to produce an
alphabetical list of occupiers of land and houses as
I have done for the surrounding countryside.

Below are links to
the Valuation Map for Ballymoney for 1880 (in
two parts)
which will allow you to locate the persons listed in
the pages of the Griffith's Printed Valuation of
1859. Unfortunately the quality of the 1859 map
which matches the 1859 Valuation is so poor that I
have had to use a later, legible, map which dates
from 1880. Fortunately, there are only a few
differences between the 1859 and the 1880
maps -
read this.

Note that you can see
a more detailed map of Church Street
here. Griffith's Valuation
of 1859 was revised periodically from around 1864
until about 1930, when a complete general revaluation
of all of Northern Ireland was carried out. To
provide information on the changes in each street
for this period would be a mammoth task. I have done
it for Church Street, only.
Click on 'Griffith's Revisions from 1864 to c.1900' in
the left hand menu to see these changes. |
